Responsibilities of the GYR

Gutenberg Council for Young Researchers (GYR) is managed by an interdisciplinary executive committee. It consists of members of Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (JGU), who stand out through exceptional commitment and excellent achievements in the enhancement of young researchers. Representatives are not only professors, but also young researchers in different phases of their careers, both before and after receiving their doctoral degree. The president of JGU also attends meetings in a consulting function.


  • Developing strategic perspectives for young researchers, as well as, the formulation of suggestions and activities
  • Consulting university management and, if requested, faculties, colleges of arts, central departments, the senate and university council
  • Systemizing and visualizing support programs, which already exist and developing new programs
  • Creating opportunities to articulate requests of young researchers
