Gutenberg Translation Award

New call for application in 2017

Despite the increasing internationalization of research, many publications and scientific discourses are ignored or get only little attention at the international level. International visibility is often hampered by the language in which certain research results are published or discourses are held. In some disciplines, English is not (yet) the lingua franca of science; in other fields, the translation of research results in a language other than English is considered desirable to promote the internationalization of one’s own research and to make research results available for a wider expert audience.

The Gutenberg Translation Award comes with a cash prize of up to 10,000 €. It aims at promoting the translation of an excellent publication and contributes significantly to international visibility.

The Gutenberg Translation Award was inaugurated in 2016 for the first time in the course of the Dies Academicus to Dr. Bernhard Dietz, Faculty 07, for the translation of his dissertation Neo-Tories. British Conservatives in rebellion against democracy and political modernity, 1929-39 from German into English.
